Every day, you're a walking, living, breathing power matrix. You take action, or you shy away from action. You make decisions, or you put off decisions. Either way, your entire "Power iOS" is what is dictating whether you will achieve what you wish to achieve - in the small things you do and decide every day, and in the larger story arcs these create for you across the years of your life and career.
If you've never taken the time to DEFINE what being powerful means to you and your work and life, you may be operating on whatever old programming was installed in you, usually before you were 7 years old, with minor changes as you've matured. And then, you may never have DESIGNED the habits and beliefs that support a powerful life - one lived in achievement, profit, and success.
Today, let's walk through how to define, then design, your inner power.
Your "Power iOS" is dictating whether you will achieve what you wish to achieve - in the small things you do and decide every day, and in the larger story arcs these create for you across the years of your life and career. Click to tweet.
1. Define Your Power
First, DEFINE - what does being a powerful person mean to you? And/or, what does it enable you to do?
How about...
The power to make decisions based on your own wisdom, rather than reacting to avoiding fear of criticism, fear of missing out (FOMO), being guilted and pressured by have-to's, rampant overgiving to combat feelings of your own worthlessness.
The power to stand up in seniority among others as a strong fellow contributor and influencer, rather than automatically folding or feeling worthless around authority figures or those you feel are "so far above and beyond you" or "already such a success, how can you even talk to them".
The power to create, engage, speak, train and teach on your unique wisdom, rather than fearing and feeling the smallness of "Who am I to be doing this?"
The power to dismiss perfectionism from your life, because perfectionism is one of the silent killers of ambition and success.
The power to feel strong, secure, and adventurous throughout you day, week, month, year - waking each day feeling inspired and ready to tackle whatever comes your way with interest and enthusiasm.
The power to create an extraordinary life, and bring that model of living to the world and the people who need it.
Take a moment now to write 10 things that being POWERFUL brings to your life, that you can't do otherwise. They will be unique, tailored to you. Play with your ideas and let possibility flow.
2. Design Your Power
Next, DESIGN your power. Take the things you wrote and design them into your day. To build on the list above, here are ways these could be actioned in everyday life.
The power to make decisions based on your own wisdom = Committing to being more decisive overall, and to making your daily decisions come from your inner core, rather than external pressures. Learning to use the power of No to wisely set boundaries and preserve your energies from over-giving, without worrying about others' guilting or criticism. The more you practice these, the more ease and success you'll have in letting decision-making be a flowing part of your day, leading to greater levels of achievement.
The power to stand up in seniority among others = Practicing feeling at ease as you rub shoulders with all levels of successful visionaries in and out of your field of expertise. Approaching them with a spirit of learning, collaboration, and shared curiosity in creating a more amazing world and a successful vision. Helping those who can benefit from your expertise; learning from those who have more experience than you.
The power to create, engage, speak, train and teach = Regularly taking the role of leader among others as you gently hold space for your own expertise. Opening up to respect for your own wisdom. Finding more ways to bring your unique contribution to the workplace and the world.
The power to dismiss perfectionism from your life = Committing to excellence as being good enough, as always seeking excellence, as always seeking progress, not perfection. Not letting fear of "it's not perfect enough!" stop you from bringing your product, vision, words to the world.
The power to feel strong, secure, and adventurous = Deliberately banishing the habits of fear and worry from your moment-by-moment experience. Cultivating strength, capability, amusement and curiosity as you walk through each day of life's experience. Learning to stand up for your true value in the workplace, and negotiate from a secure place for what you're worth. Learning your vulnerable and low-energy times (when worry can begin to haunt you as you grow fatigued) ,and putting real relaxation and self-protection in place for those.
The power to create an extraordinary life = Putting in place an ongoing process of recoding and going past all the societal, familial, work-world, and other b.s., so that you can come from a new level leading to wise advancement and true success.
Take the 10 power definitions you wrote in part 1. Create a daily DESIGN aspect that defines how you practice and action each one. This helps you activate these as changes to your daily life.
Extra Credit: Set up a way to measure or track how often you activate one of your new design aspects. For example, if you determine to practice reaching out confidently to those with more expertise, set a daily or weekly goal of how many people you'll reach out to. Track what you did and journal on how it felt. Doing this can keep you dialed in to your goal, as well as show you the progress you're making as you read past entries and realize you now do this without a second thought!
Next, do some future pacing. Now that you're upleveling your Power iOS, how do these small shifts to your daily flow, change your Lifetime Story Arc in the areas of Career, Vision, Success? Think it out forward as you see how the small changes you're making today to your daily Power Matrix, lead to BIG results in the now and the future.
Believe you are powerful. Because you are.
